Contour maps show the topography of an area.
Lines are drawn on the map showing areas of equal elevation. If you walked along one of these lines, it would be perfectly flat!
Lines that are closer together, shows areas where the hills are steeper. Where they narrow in, this can show where the gullies are, such as Ferntree Gully.
When lines are further apart, this means the land is flatter.
